Le bistrot

September 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

baby brought me there for my bday. ;)
In my opinion, this bistro serves fine french cuisine in the mindset of a typical singaporean appetite(or maybe mentality). A typical french meal is usually petit and not soo filling(can check out my post on La Petit Cuisine). But food served here has really big portion. Too filling for a gal or even a guy. It’s like serving for the NS guys. Despite the huge quantity, quality wasn’t spared. I still managed to savour gd stuff out it. The ambience was great, but i wished i’ve a table inside instead. Will probably be more romantic. lol.. k la, better get back to the food. Anyway, baby and i had the set of main+dessert which cost $38. U get to choose a range of items frm each segment of the menu. U oso get the option to haf entrée+main at the same price. Those wif a big big appetite, top up $10 and u’ll get the full 3 course meal.

Mains
pan fried salmon fillet
Pan roasted salmon fillet – baby had this. It’s also pretty filling to baby’s surprise. Cos he didn’t expect juz dat fillet is sooo filling. plus the ratatouille… (not the rat movie arh..) By now, u shld noe it’s a stew dish. hee…
duck leg confit
Duck leg confit – It’s ultra filling. Normally u get 1 duck leg onli… But here u get 2 plus mash. I was almost full after finishing them. The duck was pretty tender and succulent. Still i kinda preferred the white dog’s version.

Desserts

tarte au chocolat
Tarte au chocolat – the chocolat is really gd dat i managed to finished it after having the filling main. Paired with the lemon custard, the whole dessert had a refreshing taste, not too sweet or bitter. Everything’s nice except i wished the portion is smaller.
nougat glace
Nougat Glacé – baby’s dessert. Is a parfait wif the nougattie taste. I like the candied orange skin on top paired wif the ice cream… nice nice.

Will definately go back for more yummy stuff, esp their desserts. But i guess i’ll go with an empty stomach next time, so dat i can savour the food well. hee..

La Petit Cuisine

September 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I visited there after reading the sunday times lifestyle review. It’s really a small corner with less than 15 tables. Was expecting to haf coq au vin, but dey either sold out or wasn’t available dat day. So tried their duck confit while baby tried their stirloin steak. It’s erm…… read below for the comments ba… Hint: the nearby Island creamey satisfy me more than here.

stirloin steak
Stirloin steak – It was tender and it smell really gd(even a non beefer like me oso tempted to try). But portion was too petit and w/o sauce, baby lament it as unsatisfying…

duck confit
Duck Confit – disappointing. U see the picture in wine and dine’s review u’ll see wat i mean.
It only kept reminding me how nice was the 1 i had at white dog(sth is wrong.. white dog is not even a proper french stall). I guess it’s either the cook was in a hurry to serve or lack of QC. If u dun see wat’s wrong,  let me explain ba. The skin is not dat crispy(dun even say crispier) and fats still stuck on the skin(definately show duck got cook wif its fat but not cooked long enuff ba)

Forgotten to mention abt their bread wif butter b4 meal. The bread was nice and warm. Totally reminds me of the breads i had in Europe cafes and bistros. Guess it’s the onli thing i like dere le.

The French Stall

September 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Haf a tinge of french casually.. That’s what i did at The French Stall. Somewhere near Farrer Park (or rather the end of little India), The French Stall is a standout bistro which serves sum pretty decent french cuisine at a pretty heartlander price. What i like abt it: The tinge of frenchness in the decor and food. What i dun like abt it: Too frills free. But den again u pay peanuts, of cos u get peanuts la. So can’t complain much.

mozarella appetizer
Mozarella salad with vinegratte dressing – Entree and Our 1st taste of french cuisine.. it’s the impression we normally get, small and presentable. I love mozarella and how it blends wif the vinegratte and tomatoes. Wish the portion will be bigger. :(

duck a l'orange
Duck a l’orange – Duck serve in orange sauce with risotto. I find the duck a bit too crispy and dry. Wld haf been better if the meat is moist. Risotto is fillin, kinda complete the meal.

pork loin cordon bleu
Pork loin cordon bleu – Pork loin with cheese and bacon stuffed in it. A nice combi and the pork is nice and blends well with the cream sauce. But the stuffings didn’t blend so well.

chocolate cake with ice cream
Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream – It’s the only dish that cld probably bring me back dere again. The chocolate cake was rich and moist. The ice cream can be do w/o but w it, the cake taste juz as gd too. Wld definately be back for this dessert.
